About Me

An introduction to my journey, philosophy, and the values that anchor my work in education.

Welcome.

I'm Leroy — an educator, author, and doctoral candidate in Educational Administration and Leadership. I currently serve as a Reading Interventionist with the Los Angeles Unified School District, where I design literacy interventions for middle school students reading well below grade level.

This site is a window into my work: the classrooms I've taught in, the research I've done, the literacy program I built for the students at my school, and the leadership philosophy that guides everything I do.

Whether you're an administrator, a fellow educator, a school district, or a publisher — I'm glad you're here. Take a look around.

A brief introduction.

"True leadership is rooted in service — and education is the highest form of service to the next generation."

I am a dynamic educator with extensive experience at the Los Angeles Unified School District, currently serving as a Reading Interventionist where I develop individualized reading plans for diverse learners and train staff on evidence-based intervention techniques.

I hold a Master of Education (Multiple Subject) from Alliant International University, an MBA from Capella University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where I served as Captain of the football team. I'm completing my doctorate in Administration & Leadership in 2026.

Beyond the classroom, I am the author of two published books, a U.S. utility patent holder, and a former NCAA Division I student-athlete — experiences that have shaped my conviction that discipline, faith, and purposeful leadership change lives.

Doctoral Capstone

My doctoral capstone — a complete, research-grounded literacy intervention designed for the students I serve every day.

📖
Tier 3 Literacy Intervention
Grades 6–8

Culturally Relevant Reading Engagement Program (CRREP)

A Tier 3 Literacy Intervention for Grades 6–8

CRREP is a complete 8-week structured literacy intervention I designed for the 200+ students reading three or more grade levels below benchmark at Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. Middle School. The program addresses what i-Ready alone cannot: building reading identity, restoring authentic engagement, and centering students whose cultures and communities have been historically underrepresented in school texts.

Grounded in 10 peer-reviewed sources spanning culturally sustaining pedagogy (Gay, Paris & Alim), adolescent reading motivation (Webber et al.), and vocabulary intervention research (Black & Wright, Lupo et al.), the program delivers a daily 45-minute block built from five segments — fluency warm-up, explicit vocabulary, guided reading, discussion-based comprehension, and exit ticket — across eight thematic weeks from Identity & Reader Engagement to Synthesis & Celebration.

The full project includes weekly lesson templates, curated text sets featuring authors like Sandra Cisneros, Jason Reynolds, and Elizabeth Acevedo, vocabulary routines, a structured student-choice system, five progress-monitoring tools, comprehensive differentiation for English Learners and IEP students, and a teacher implementation guide with a 90-minute PD session — all measured against four outcome categories: engagement, vocabulary acquisition, reading-level growth, and reading identity.

The Impact of Technology Integration on Student Learning Outcomes in K–12 Education

An intensive literature review and theoretical analysis examining the relationship between learner autonomy and adolescent academic engagement. The paper synthesizes empirical research on teaching experience, administrative support, and technology integration, anchored in Vygotsky's sociocultural theory and a biblical perspective on stewardship of God-given talents.
